AMF Modifies Education Requirements for New Advisors

Effective March 1, 2010, the Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF) has modified the education requirements for obtaining a license to sell Group Insurance and Group Annuity plans in Quebec. Previously, a minimum of 13 years of education was required (typically a Diploma of Collegial Studies). Now, a minimum of 11 years of education (typically a High School Leaving Diploma), combined with relevant full time education may be sufficient to qualify a person to begin the certification process.

The Recognition of Workplace Skills form (presently available only in French) must be completed to get years of experience recognized by the AMF.

This is great news for experienced individuals who have previously been unable to obtain their Group Insurance of Persons license without returning to full time studies in a College or University.

The AMF describes the steps involved in the certification process on their website: http://www.lautorite.qc.ca/clientele/futur-professionnel/assur/coll-pers.en.html
