Selling Group Insurance in Quebec

The Autorité des marchés financiers (AMF), as the official regulator of Quebec’s financial sector, has set forth the minimum requirements for entitlement of a certificat in Group Insurance of Persons in The Regulation Respecting the Issuance and Renewal of Representatives’ Certificates.

Step 1: You must meet the minimum education requirements:

  • A diploma of collegial studies issued in Quebec; or
  • A decision of the AMF attesting to the level of education equivalent to a diploma of collegial studies; or
  • An attestation of collegial studies in insurance of persons recognized in an agreement between the AMF and a Quebec college-level institution; or
  • A Bachelor’s degree from a Canadian University; or
  • Two 30-credit certificates from a Quebec University; or
  • A university-level certificate in insurance of persons recognized in an agreement between the AMF and a university.

Step 2: You must successfully complete the required courses administered by an approved third party such as EB Knowledge Centre:

  • For a certificat in Group Insurance of Persons: Courses 02-306, 02-307, 02-203, 02-204 & 02-103
  • For a certificat in Group Insurance Plans: Courses 02-306, 02-103 & 02-203
  • For a certificat in Group Annuity Plans: Courses 02-307, 02-204 & 02-103

Step 3: You must successfully complete the AMF exams corresponding to your desired discipline.

Step 4: You must complete a supervised internship:

  • For a certificat in Group Insurance of Persons: 90 days
  • For a certificat in Group Insurance Plans: 45 days
  • For a certificat in Group Annuity Plans: 45 days

Step 5: You obtain your license to sell Group Insurance and/or Group Annuites in Quebec.
